The ninth studio album by R.E.M., led by the successful single “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?”, debuted at number one in the United States and at least seven other countries. Four more singles were released from the album including the UK top-20 hits “Bang and Blame”, “Strange Currencies”, and “Tongue”. Monster sold over 9 million times.
