Series 681 five cent U.S. military payment certificate (MPC). Circulated note issued between August 11th, 1969 and October 7th, 1970 to US military personnel in Vietnam. To limited currency arbitrage MPCs were issued as payment in foreign countries and, when soldiers left, could be converted to U.S. dollars or local currency. Series 681 5¢ notes show an astronaut orbiting Earth on their face and a submarine on the reverse.
